Local SEO: Ranking Higher on Maps

Showing up in near me searches is worth more than ads for most local businesses.

An abstract texture of light and shadow

When someone searches for something near me the intent is already there, and they often plan to visit the same day. Being one of the three businesses in the map pack is the cheapest long term source of customers.

Fill the listing out completely

  • The right primary category, the single most important field
  • Opening hours including holidays
  • Phone, website and an accurate map pin
  • Real photos of the venue, not stock imagery
  • A service list and product entries where relevant

It is the flow of reviews, not the count

A hundred reviews collected two years ago count for less than fifteen from the last three months. A steady flow shows the business is still active, and replying to every review reinforces the same signal.

Keep your details identical everywhere

Your business name, address and phone number should be written identically everywhere. An address spelled differently in one directory leaves the search engine unsure which version is correct, and that costs you rank.

Leave local signals on your site too

The listing alone is not enough. Pages describing the areas you serve, plus an address and opening hours declared in structured data, form the second layer that supports it.
